Dear Mr. President,

I was dismayed by news of the despicable terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington in which so many people have lost their lives.

My government sharply condemns these terrorist acts. The German people stand at the side of the United States of America in this difficult hour.

I would like to express to you and the American people my deeply felt condolences and my full solidarity. Our sympathies go out to the victims and their families.
